A year ago my friend Katie wrote an email on a cold, dark February day wondering why she hadn’t made plans to ride out February from somewhere sunnier. Last February was particularly cold and dark in the Northeast, but for Katie who had recently lost her husband, Kris, it was about as cold and dark as a February gets. It took no convincing for me to promise that the next February we would meet somewhere sunny and warm. We arrived in Florida yesterday, over-tired toddlers in tow, and have spent the past 24 hours covering ourselves in sand, dipping in the ocean and swimming in the pool. I’d meet these two pretty much anywhere on earth but I’m glad we’re here.
And now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a moonlit hot tub to attend to.
